The dust has settled on the 4th edition of Interesting Vancouver and the evening is beginning to sink in.

Obviously, the biggest change this year was the venue. We didn’t really know what to expect at the Museum of Vancouver, but we knew we wanted to partner with MOV when the opportunity arose. It was better than we could have ever expected, and we’re thankful for all they did to help out. The permanent exhibitions gave us a look back on the history of Vancouver to see where we had come from, the expansive windows with views of the city allowed us to imagine where we might be going and everyone in the room was a powerful reminder of the diversity that makes a community – our community – interesting.

Without a cohesive theme, our speakers were given a blank slate and while this may sound like freedom, it takes a fair bit of courage to talk about something you care about to a room full of strangers who may not. Our speakers took a chance and did a fantastic job.

For those of you that couldn’t attend, Ryan Mah and Jake Hermiston were kind enough to donate their time and equipment to film the evening for us. Once they’ve completed editing, the videos will be added to Vimeo. On the topic of volunteers, we would also like to say thank you to Cinci Csere, Trevor Jansen and Margo Lopez. Volunteers are a crucial part of our team and we can’t thank them enough.

We also need to say thank you to Driftwood Brewing and The Butler Did It Catering for providing the food and drinks. Thanks also to MOV, Mark Anthony Brands, Driftwood Brewing and Geek Squad/Best Buy for the door prizes.

Lastly, we would like to thank everyone that attended and made the evening what it is. The conversations that happen on the margins are a vital aspect of Interesting Vancouver and we thank you for taking part.

We look forward to seeing you all again. In the meantime, if you know of anyone who would be an appropriate speaker for next year, please get in touch with us: interestingvancouver [at] gmail [dot] com.
